Open Studio Tour

I am pleased to showcase my most recent works: Ottawa Sidewalks.

I am interested in everyday urban architecture and how the public interacts with it. Crumbling city sidewalks are constantly repaired with a quick patch of asphalt. Time, weather and foot traffic transform these patches into fascinating varied shapes and imagery. I have traced these patches and transfered them onto canvas.

In my newest body of work Ottawa Sidewalks, I am using sidewalks as giant woodblock prints. By applying wet asphalt over the existing patch and then placing the canvas face down onto it, I am rewarded with a myriad of marks, blobs and lines. These graphic noises are the framework for the resulting paintings.

Please join me on Saturday, October 23 & Sunday, October 24 noon – 5pm
